Explore Characters

Find better characters through discovery, public pages, creator profiles, follows, and sharing.

Finding characters you actually want to spend time with is part of the experience. anime.gf gives you a few different ways to discover them, and each one is useful for a different kind of search.

Start With Discovery

The main home page combines several discovery tools:

  • Featured characters when you want curated picks.
  • Search text for direct lookup.
  • Tags for narrowing themes and content.
  • Ranking controls such as new, hot, or top.
  • Following-based discovery when your account already has creator relationships.

If you are not finding the right thing:

  • Search by the strongest concept word first.
  • Add or remove tags instead of writing a long sentence.
  • Open a creator profile when one strong character already matches your taste.

Character Pages Tell You What to Expect

Public character pages bring together the key information in one place:

  • Title and creator identity.
  • Avatar and banner art.
  • Tagline.
  • Greeting.
  • Scenario, when present.
  • Tags.
  • Like and message counts.
  • Share and download actions when allowed.
  • Comments and related discovery sections.

This page is the best place to decide whether a character is worth starting a chat with.

The greeting matters a lot. A strong greeting usually tells you more about the actual experience than the title alone.

Public, Unlisted, and Private

anime.gf uses three visibility states for creator-owned characters:

  • Public means anyone can discover it normally.
  • Unlisted means access depends on the tokenized link.
  • Private means it is not available as a public-facing character, whether you chose that intentionally or the system forced it private during moderation.

Unlisted characters matter because their share URL uses a secret token route instead of the normal public ID route.

If a character violates the Community Guidelines, anime.gf may also force it private or remove it from normal public discovery.

Likes, Sharing, and Downloads

Character pages expose the main audience actions:

  • Like to save positive feedback and improve your own discovery surfaces.
  • Share to copy a direct link.
  • Download when the creator allows it, or when you own the character yourself.

Downloads can be offered in more than one format on the character page.

Reporting Characters

If a character or discovery card looks unsafe, spammy, or clearly against the rules, report it instead of only hiding it.

You can do that from:

  • the Report action on a character page
  • the report option on the character panel
  • the report option on discovery cards while browsing

Use the in-product report flow when you want the team to review the character directly.

That is usually the fastest path, because the report enters the moderation queue with the exact character attached.

anime.gf also uses automated moderation signals. A character can be auto-flagged and forced private while it waits for manual review.

If you only have the card in front of you, need a second path, or want to flag it with extra context, you can also bring the link or screenshot to the anime.gf Discord.

Creator Profiles and Following

Creator profiles are one of the best discovery tools in the product.

They let you:

  • Browse a creator's published characters.
  • Follow or unfollow that creator.
  • Open follower and following lists.
  • See liked characters on your own profile.

If you find a creator whose style matches what you want, following is usually more useful than repeatedly searching from scratch.

One edge case is imported or external creator pages. Some profiles are visible because the character came from an external source, but that does not always behave exactly like a normal native anime.gf creator profile. In those cases, browsing may work while follow behavior is limited or unavailable.

Creator profiles are one of the fastest ways to discover more of the same style once you find a character that already works for you.

Recents, Hidden Characters, and Blocked Creators

anime.gf also gives you account-side filters for cleaning up discovery.

  • Recents helps you resume characters and chats you already touched.
  • Hidden Characters removes individual characters from your view until you unhide them.
  • Blocked Creators prevents specific creators from showing up in your flow.

Use hidden characters when:

  • One card is cluttering your browsing.
  • You want to clean recents without blocking the creator.

Use blocked creators when:

  • You do not want to see anything from that creator again.

A Good Evaluation Pass Before You Chat

When you open a character page, check these in order:

  1. Does the greeting actually sound like the experience you want?
  2. Is the tagline specific, or is it generic filler?
  3. Do the tags match the tone and rating you expect?
  4. Is the visibility what you intended if it is your own character?
  5. If downloads matter to you, is downloading enabled?

If the issue is not the character itself but the product behavior around discovery, bring the bug or suggestion to the anime.gf Discord.
